Netflix has scheduled its six-episode Pride and Prejudice to arrive on Dec. 3, The Hollywood Reporter says. The streaming platform also described the adaptation as one that will “hew closely to the 1813 novel” while incorporating “thoughtful creative turns.” The announcement forms part of a busy autumn for Regency adaptations, the publication notes.

Full ensemble revealed at Jane Austen Festival in Bath

Series writer Dolly Alderton — whose credits include Everything I Know About Love and Ghosts — gave the Jane Austen Festival in Bath the first full look at the cast, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The images showcase Emma Corrin as protagonist Lizzy Bennet and Olivia Colman as Mrs. Bennet, with Jack Lowden as Mr. Darcy and Rufus Sewell as Mr. Bennet. Also pictured were Louis Partridge as Mr. Wickham, Daryl McCormack as Mr. Bingley and Freya Mavor as Jane Bennet. The ensemble list continues with Jamie Demetriou as Mr. Collins, Rhea Norwood as Lydia Bennet, Siena Kelly as Caroline Bingley, Fiona Shaw as Lady Catherine de Bourgh, Hopey Parish as Mary Bennet and Hollie Avery as Kitty Bennet.

Netflix characterised the series as faithful to Jane Austen’s 1813 novel — praised for its social commentary and wit — while allowing for ‘thoughtful creative turns,’ The Hollywood Reporter relays. Alderton, speaking when the series trailer was released in February, said: “Once in a generation, a group of people get to retell this wonderful story, and I feel very lucky that I get to be a part of it.” She added that Pride and Prejudice is the blueprint for romantic comedy and described the project as an opportunity to find both familiar and fresh ways of bringing the book to life.
